The Festa das Tochas Floridas - Flower Torches Festival, is a traditional annual event to celebrate Easter in São Brás de Alportel. Colourful, local, and rich in community, this is an iconic Easter event in the Algarve.
The Festival takes place on Easter Sunday and is a colourful spectacle. The streets of the town are carpeted with fresh flowers, and local residents decorate their balconies and windows with flowers too, to add to the show.
The Festival opens at 9.30am. You need to get there early to see the show of flowers along the streets. At 11am the Resurrection Procession begins - men carry beautifully crafted “torches” of flowers along a route that ends at the town's main church.
There are also traditional Easter sweets for sale. Be sure to sample the typical sweet almonds from São Brás!
