A Lota Seafood Restaurant

The Algarve village of Alvor is famed for its great fish restaurants. A Lota Seafood Restaurant is one of the best with an excellent range of fresh fish and seafood available daily, friendly service and a fantastic location near the harbour.

The name A Lota comes from the Portuguese for fish market. The restaurant is just a few metres from the old Alvor fish market where the fishermen brought their catch ashore and where the locals bought their fresh fish each day. It's still a favourite gathering place today. A Lota restaurant has continued with the great fish and seafood tradition for which Alvor is justly famed. They take great pride in choosing the best produce to serve at their tables.

As you enter A Lota you have the large charcoal grill to one side and the fresh fish display to the other. If you see some species that don't look too familiar , don't worry - the staff are well able to tell you about the local catch and help you choose what best suits you. The menu is full of great fish and seafood options. You can choose from Oysters, clams, mussels, lobster, giant prawns, crab. If you can't make up your mind, go for the Mixed Seafood Platter - a little bit of everything!

If fish is not your thing, then there are several meat dishes to choose from too - chicken, steaks, lamb and spare ribs. There are vegetarian dishes available and also a children's menu.

The atmosphere at A Lota is casual and relaxed. You can enjoy some starters while the fish is grilling, sip some chilled Portuguese wine and watch the world go by from the restaurant terrace. During the summer, the terrace is everybody's favourite place to sit, while during the cooler months the upstairs dining room is cosy and has a great view over the Ria Alvor. It's also an ideal location for private parties and groups.
