Sushi Ya in downtown Faro, the capital of the Algarve, is bliss for lovers of sushi and sashimi. This great sushi garden serves food that is of excellent quality and the atmosphere is calm and tranquil - very Zen!
Housed in a small building, the décor is very evocative of Japan - light and calm. There is an indoor dining room and a lovely courtyard for summer dining, decorated with paper lanterns and bamboo. The team at Sushi Ya have many years experience with Japanese cuisine and work to give their clients the most authentic Japanese eating experience they can.
The main attraction at Sushi Ya is , obviously the sushi and sashimi. A common misconception is that sushi is actually the raw fish. It's not. Sushi is vinegared rice that is topped or rolled with other ingredients such as fish or seafood. And sashimi is sliced raw fish. The quality of the fish used at Sushi Ya is excellent - the freshness of the fish being absolutely essential for good results. The presentation of each dish is a breath-taking - colourful, delicate and artistic, with the combinations of rolls and toppings served on wooden boats.
There are several fixed menus available and if sushi doesn't quite do it for you, then there is a range of hot dishes too - tempura prawns and vegetables, noodles and chicken, and also a selection of meat dishes. Special mention for the desserts with several varieties of Japanese ice cream to choose from - the Wasabi being the favourite.
